Liquid City book signing - SOLD OUT!

Excitement is high for the book signing at Kinokuniya. Aside from the supporters of various artists, there are comic fans who gathered to get their hands on signed copies of "Liquid City Anthology". If ever there is a moment in Singapore comic history, this is one of them.

Troy Chin, Drewscape, Gary Choo, Kenfoo, Leong Wan Kok, Hu Jingxuan, Lefty, FSc, Chin Sau Lim, Michael Chuah, Koh Hong Teng and myself were present to sign each book on Saturday. Sonny Liew, editor and Eisener-nominated comic artist, headed the team. Celebrity supporters include Miel, Lim Chengtju and Morgan Chua.

We sold out all of Kinokuniya's stock that day.

Then it's off to Black Earth Art Museum, where Sonny and Hong Teng join 2 other illustrators for a unique comic art exhibition called "Half Flat", sponsored by National Arts Council.

29th Nov 2008 is a most memorable day for SE Comics indeed!

About Miel

The exhibition So Singapore Toons is the Discovery Centre's first on local cartoons. Rightfully, I'd like to highlight Prudencio (no relations with the insurance company Prudential) Miel first.

Miel is arguably the most prolific comic artist in Singapore. You can see his signature line of toons in CPF fliers, IKEA maps and The Straits Time. His artworks are a lethal combination of fiercely precise line work and unbounded creativity. His political cartoons reveal a sharp intellect, but his more colourful and playful Singaporean caricatures are hugely funny and lovable. I am constantly in awe of his works, and imagine a distant day when the range of my work can be as wide as his. One must always dream big.

The good people at SDC, chiefly Yee Joo and Pauline, created a lot of photo opportunities for visitors by approving some larger-than-life props such as the Mr Brown coffee cup (above, with Miel dunked inside) and the Miel barbell (also above). The kid visitors, endearingly destructive like my Sir Fong Bunnies, managed to break the barbell at least once in their enthusiasm. During my visit, a parent had to stop his kids from staging a fight with swordfish props.

Latest news (thanks 2 Nigel C): the latest issue of I-S magazine, purveyer of all things hot in town, contains a feature on the local indie comic scene. Look for Sir Fong in there looking goofy!

The Singapore Discovery Centre has put up the Artist Infos on participating artists, and you can see my brand new avatar on site. I'm so honored! George Nonis, the creator of Hello Chok Tong Goodbye Kuan Yew, is one of the artists whose works I get to exhibit along side!
